Shimmering Islands: A Symphonic Memory of Taiwan / Taiwanese Folk Song / "Gijigou Dou" (Lost Spring Wind), "Forget Spring", and "Darkness in the Night"

This work was inspired by Taiwanese folk songs and incorporates the memories and emotions of the land into a rich orchestral composition.

Inspired by traditional melodies, this Taiwanese Folk Song Suite transforms rich cultural memories into a vibrant orchestral work.

🎧 The glimmering of the islands is dedicated to all the souls who love the land of Taiwan.

Glimmer of the Island — Dedicated to all souls who cherish the land of Taiwan.

The whistle of the train passing through the tunnel in "Jiu Jiu Dou Cai" is the starting point of memories;

The train whistle echoing through the tunnel “Diu Diu Dang” marks the starting point of memory;

Spring breeze blowing over the worries of a young girl, "Looking for Spring," is deep longing;

The spring breeze brushing past a maiden’s longing “Longing for the Spring Breeze”represents a deep and lingering yearning;

When the clouds gather and the rain comes, darkness falls, yet it is the most warm bond between land and family.

When dark clouds loom and a sudden rain approaches “Tian Hei Hei”, it reveals the warmest bond between the land and the family.

In this suite, the three popular Taiwanese folk songs are boldly woven into one grand modern symphonic poem. Amid the heavy and heartbreaking late romantic melodies and the tug-of-war between harmony and dissonance, we hear the breath of the island, the roar of the wind and the rain, and the eternal “glimmer” that never goes out.

This suite boldly weaves these three beloved Taiwanese folk songs into a grand modern symphonic poem. Amidst the tension between heavy, heart-wrenching late-romantic harmonies and dissonances, we hear the breathing of the island, the roaring of the wind and rain, and that unextinguishable “glimmer.”

Among them, special use has been made of traffic cone simulation for intersection warning, as well as the unconventional sound effects of modern brass instruments, showcasing the collision between modern and traditional elements. And the thunderous explosions of afternoon thunderstorms—please experience them for yourself!

Notably, tubular bells are used to simulate a railway crossing warning, alongside the dissonant textures of modern brass instruments, showcasing a collision between the modern and the traditional. As for the roaring thunder of a sudden afternoon storm—experience it for yourself!
